The Kennebec has the the most northern population of native reproducing striped bass in North America. Accordingly, the State of Maine has established special fishing regulations that protect spawning stripers within the Kennebec watershed. Fishing during the months of May and June on the Kennebec Watershed is restricted to the use of single hook flies and artificial lures. All stripers caught during this period must be released back into the river. This provides for a truly world class striped bass fishery all the while protecting this priceless resource.
