It seems like just the other day I was studying for my Coast Guard captain's license when in fact, I'll be sending in for my 3rd renewal very soon! In 1991 I was 33 years old and I had just met the love of my life Barbara whom many of you know. I owned a relatively new boat, booked a whopping total of 8 charters and was doing way too much carpentry work. In 2005 I'm not 33 anymore, my love of my life for some unknown reason is still with me. I have two not so new boats, will book 70-80 charters and still do way too much carpentry work. I have 15 years of incredible memories stored away and I can't wait for the next 15 years to unfold. Lessons learned:
You can never have too much clothing with you when fishing. You really do need to use sunscreen. Fish are only creatures of habit to a point. Fishermen are always creatures of habit. Diesel fuel does not work well in outboard motors. The Ledges in the Kennebec do not really change their location. Gas gauges are not always accurate. Never leave mackerel, eels or blood worms in your bait box for several days without ice. Always crush down the barbs. And last but not least, always lock up your electronics and fishing gear.
