Charlotte Harbor Fishing Report February 24, 2020

Fishing Conditions: Pretty good conditions this week. Water quality and clarity will be excellent throughout Pine Island Sound and Gasparilla. Lots of moving water and falling tides will keep the active all morning.

My tips of the week: With dropping tides the fish will be coming out of the mangroves and cruising the sand and grass inside the bars.

Capt. Dave Pecci 2/24/20

Type of bait fish are feeding on: Shrimp, crabs, pinfish, glass minnows, whitebait (threadfin herring and scaled sardines)

Water temperature inshore: 74

Water temperature offshore:72

7 day outlook: Windy Tuesday then the winds will be light until the end of the week when a cold front will arrive. Showers Wednesday then dry the rest of the week. We'll have falling tides and lots of moving water this week.

Best techniques: As the tide drops concentrate your efforts on the troughs between the mangroves and the bars.

My fly fishing and light tackle tip of the week: With dropping tides the fish will be coming out of the mangroves and cruising the sand and grass inside the bars.

Snook were feeding aggressively just before a cold front arrived last week in Matlacha Pass.

This snook took a bubblegum paddletail on a 3/8oz jighead.
